Company Information
Plantronics, Inc. introduced the first lightweight communications headset in
1962 and is today the world's leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of
lightweight communications headset products.
In 1969, a Plantronics headset carried the historic first words from the moon:
“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Today we’re the
headset of choice in mission-critical applications such as air traffic control,
911 dispatch and the New York Stock Exchange. This spirit of innovation is the
basis for every product we build – whether it’s for work, for home or on the go.
Plantronics, Inc. has made its home between the Santa Cruz Mountains and the
Pacific Coast for over 40 years. Working beneath the majestic giant redwoods
with the beautiful Santa Cruz beaches nearby, has given us a certain awe and
respect for the natural world. Along with that respect, comes an abiding commitment
to do the right thing for the community and the world of which we are a part. We
act on our commitment by, among other things, designing our products using
environmentally sound practices, packaging our products, responsibly recycling
wastes throughout our manufacturing and the entirety of our product lifecycles
and by making generous donations to contribute to the overall quality of life
of those in our community.

Monitoring System
In June of 2006, Plantronics commissioned a 262 kW photovoltaic system. Integral
to the system is the web-based monitoring. Plantronics wanted to monitor the system to:
- Confirm production of electricity.
- Enable maintenance department to monitor system output.
- Allow employees to see, from their desktops, that the system is performing.
- Help enhance their already environmentally friendly image.
The system installer, Barry Swenson Builder, wanted to monitor the system to:
- Confirm the day to day system performance.
- Confirm the expected monthly output.
- Advertise their successful installations.
